A "Lixit" for Olive.

Our pup, Olive, definitely has a mind of her own, and doesn't hesitate to let us know how she feels... about EVERYTHING. It has been fun discovering her personality over the past 5 years, and let me tell you, she has been HERSELF from day one.

At night, she likes to be "tucked in" with her blanket covering her. Her favorite "treat" in the whole-wide-world is a slice of an apple - or the whole thing, if I would let her have it. (She literally has the sound of the knife cutting through the apple MEMORIZED and will come running into the kitchen before I can even finish getting all the way through.) She cannot hear music or clapping - or see someone dancing - without running to grab a toy. She cannot watch stressful situations on TV without crying. (The show Wipeout puts her in a full on panic, and it's pretty hilarious.) Oh yeah... one more thing.

She refuses to drink water out of a bowl. Like, will.not.do.it.

Really, I don't blame her. I mean, GAH-ROSS! The water gets dirty so fast and it all just seems so unsanitary, am I right?! When she was smaller, and was being crate trained, we were able to attach a Lixit Water Bottle to the side of her "room", as we called it, and she was as happy as could be! Now that she's older, and we no longer crate her at night or when we leave, I was stumped on what to do with it. What was I going to attach it to? It took some creative thinking, but I think I have finally created the perfect thing to hold her beloved water bottle!

Behold, my creation!

Below is a diagram of how I made this little contraption! It was CRAZY easy and I spent under $10.00 on the whole thing!

The best part? Olive definitely approves!

Do you have a picky pet? I'd love to hear the funny things that your furry family member likes and dislikes!

Bumpdate! {Week 22}

How far along: 22 weeks!

Baby size: Baby is the size of a spaghetti squash, is 11 inches long, and weighs about 1 pound!

Weight gain: I am up about 7 pounds from my starting weight! (I had to also gain back the 4 pounds that I had initially lost from being so sick!)

Maternity clothes: I can only wear pants that go all the way over my bump! I hate the feeling of my low rise maternity pants and Scout hates them too! Haha. She kicks me all day long if I even try to wear those. =)

Stretch marks: One little tiny one! I have been making sure I put my belly cream on at least once a day!

Sleep: Sleep has been pretty bad the past few weeks. I've been having a lot of back, hip, and leg pain. No matter what I do with pillows, I just can't get comfortable. I end up spending half of the night sitting up. =/

Gender: GIRL! {Scout Everly Davis}

Best moment this week: Josh felt her kick HARD for the first time this week! She kicked his hand twice in a row! I have also started to see movement from the outside of my belly, which is awesome... but weird at the same time!

Looking forward to: Getting the crib set up! It should be delivered today and I can't wait to see it! We decided on a "mini crib" because we live in a one bedroom condo. Scout will have her own little "corner", but there was no way a regular sized crib was going to fit there!

Movement: Yep. SO MUCH. This girl likes to move!

Food cravings: I haven't found that one thing that I crave, but if something sounds REALLY good to me, I will usually eat it! This past week it was a McFlurry one day and then apples and cheese another day. I am just happy if anything sounds good at this point!

 Anything making you sick or queasy: This is the first time I am not going to say "Yes. Everything!" Haha. As of right now, the only thing still making me feel sick is the smell of onions.

Symptoms: Mostly just the pain when I try to sleep. As a result of the bad sleep, I am SO TIRED all.the.time!

Missing: Sleeping on my back and stomach. I have never been a side sleeper!

Belly Button in or out: In, but it is s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g!

Wedding rings on or off: On.

Mood: My mood has been okay - I think! Ha. I have definitely been entering the "nesting phase", so all I have been wanting to do lately is clean and organize and get rid of things and buy things... my husband hasn't really enjoyed that too much, I don't think. ;)

Nursery: We are finally getting things done for Scout's "corner"! I am so excited to share a post on here of her space! So far, I have painted the dresser, hung some decor on the walls, AND covered one whole wall in polka dots! (Josh is definitely still warming up to them!) The crib should arrive today and I can't wait to see how it's going to look!

Well, that's it for week 22! I am SO SO SO happy to be past the nausea and vomiting. That was definitely the worst part of pregnancy (so far) for me! Now that my apatite is back, I am just trying to focus on eating a well balanced diet. The weeks are also passing by quicker, now that I am feeling better, which I am so happy about! We can't wait to meet our little Scout!!! <3

Bumpdate + Life Update! {Week 21}

Where do I start? It has been WAY too long since my last update and so much has happened in the five weeks since I last wrote! Sorry about that.

I gave the weekly "Bumpdates" a break for a while, partially because I was lazy busy, and partially because they were all kind of sounding the same to me. (Example: (Q) Anything making you nauseous or queezy? (A) YES. EVERYTHING.) <--- And that was how it went, week after looong week.

BUT, (and I made that a really big "but" because this is a huge deal) I am finally at the point where the nausea is almost completely gone! It took 20 weeks people. When I look back, I seriously question how I lived through it. Those where probably the hardest weeks of my life, no joke. I am SO thankful to be past that part of pregnancy. Sure, now I am experiencing new symptoms like back/hip/leg pain and not being able to sleep, but I would take those over nausea & vomiting ANY DAY.

About a week and a half ago, we went in for our 20 week ultrasound! I have to admit that I was nervous for this one. Despite everyone saying "Why are you worried? You're young and healthy! She's going to be fine!", I know that that isn't how this whole thing works. I know young, healthy people who have been faced with a diagnosis for their child that they weren't expecting - so I was nervous.

We went into the dark room and we were able to see our sweet little Scout up on the big screen! She was so cute moving all around, giving the doctor good views of all that he needed to see. It was also confirmed that she is still a SHE! Haha. Since we had found out right at 16 weeks, they just wanted to be sure! ;) Everything looked perfect and we could not be more grateful. I will never take having a healthy baby for granted.

Isn't she adorable? We're so in love. =)

**********************************************************************************************

A few days ago, Josh and I had a day off together and we decided to make the drive up to North Shore! This is one of our favorite things to do and we don't do it often enough. Although the weather was pretty gloomy, we didn't let that stop us!

Of course we had to stop at the food trucks for lunch! Josh got his garlic shrimp from Giovanni's Shrimp Truck and I ordered a DELICIOUS fried fish Po-boy sandwich with sweet potato fries from a Cajun shrimp truck called "Dat Cajun Guy"! (Josh was jealous of my lunch and will definitely be trying the fried shrimp Po-boy the next time we're up there!)

After finishing our lunch, we ordered some fresh beignets to-go and headed to the beach!

This time we didn't get in the water, but just sitting there watching the waves was all we needed.

Before being chased off of the beach by the rain, Josh was able to snap these quick pics of the growing belly! I feel like I finally "look" pregnant! =)

We are blessed all around - to call this place home, to have a healthy baby on the way - life is good.

16 Weeks! {+ Announcement!}

Oh dear. These "bumpdates" are hard to keep up with, believe it or not! {And sorry they are the only posts I have been doing lately. I'm hoping that will change SOON!} It's not because the weeks are passing quickly. I wish they were, but when you feel sick all.the.time. the days seem to last f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Things are getting better, slowly, but I'm still not at the end of my all-day-sickness quite yet.

I thought about answering all of the 16 week questions late, but decided to just go ahead and skip this week. I have something MUCH more exciting to share anyway!!! ;) I will share one funny moment from this week, though. I was telling my husband, Josh, that our baby was the size of an avocado this week and then I said, "Oh! We should make guacamole this week... or... wait... is that kind of morbid???" Haha. We laughed for a while about that one!

So... onto the exciting news!!! Because I am impatient, and wanted to know as soon as we could, I went ahead and scheduled an "extra" gender reveal ultrasound for a couple of days after I hit 16 weeks! I was SO excited to have the chance to see our sweet little baby again!

The baby was being SO funny during the ultrasound and it was amazing to see all that has changed since our last ultrasound, just 6 weeks ago. The baby rubbed its eyes and belly, held up a "peace" sign to the camera, did some karate, and held onto the umbilical cord. Oh, and our baby does.not.stop.moving! Does that mean we are going to have our hands full? =)

To sum it up, it was probably one of the best days I've ever had.

And now... the moment you have all been waiting for!!!

It's a GIRL!!! We are beyond excited for this little girl to join our lives and cannot wait until she is here. We love her more than words can say already! We have chosen the name Scout Everly Davis - a name we both LOVE.

Thank you to everyone who has sent prayers and good thoughts our way! I am hoping that I will be feeling better very soon. Now I'm off to start SHOPPING!!!

Bumpdate! {Week 15}

How far along: 15 weeks!

Baby size: Baby is the size of an apple, is 4 inches long, and weighs about 1.75 ounces!

Weight gain: I still don't have a scale at home, but I'm guessing I'm still about 4 pounds down from my starting weight. Eating is still a chore, but I don't think I've lost any more weight, which is good.

Maternity clothes: I've been wearing my maternity pants EVERY DAY and I'm loving them!

Stretch marks: Nope.

Sleep: Sleep has been okay. I have been having a lot of back pain and am finding it harder to find a comfortable position. I spend the night shifting from my left side to my back, then back to my left side...

Gender: We are getting SOOO close! We have our "big ultrasound" scheduled with my doctor for January 24th, but just knowing that we could find out sooner than that is REALLY tempting me! I'll admit I'm looking into paying to have done earlier! =)

Best moment this week: I felt pretty good on Christmas Day and it was so nice to just relax and eat a decent amount of food! I still wish I could have eaten more, but I'll take whatever I can get right now!

Looking forward to: I have officially gone a WHOLE week without throwing up and I HOPE I'm past that stage!!! Did I just jinx myself???

Movement: I don't think so... it's still too early, right? I have felt a lot of "rumbling" in my tummy, but I don't think any of it is from the baby yet. I can't wait for that, though!

Food cravings: Not really. I still turn to chocolate pudding when I need a snack, but I'm still not craving anything. I did eat a bazillion cutie oranges this week, which I think helped me when I was feeling really nauseous.

Anything making you sick or queasy: Yes. Still, mostly everything.

Symptoms: Nausea, CRAZY headaches, indigestion, and back pain. This baby is just not letting me off the hook!

Missing: (Still) My appetite! I just want food to be enjoyable again!

Belly Button in or out: In.

Wedding rings on or off: On.

Mood: This week was a pretty good week for me! It's crazy how your definition of feeling "good" can change so much when you're pregnant. If I were just my normal, non-pregnant self, I would probably be saying that I feel awful, but compared to how I felt weeks 6-13 of my pregnancy, I am feeling good! I'm just happy to be able to focus on things other than trying not to throw up.

Nursery: Well, I know that our baby will be sharing a room with us, because we only have one bedroom, so I've been on the hunt (online) for a "smaller-than-normal" crib and I think I found the perfect one! This crib is smaller than a standard crib, can wheel around, and can fold up if needed! I think I'm in love! I want to create a cute little "nursery nook" in our room, but plan on wheeling the crib to the side of our bed at night, so I think this would work great!

Work outs: This week I had more physical activity than I've gotten in a while. Our living situation is a bit confusing, but to make a long story short, we have moved into a one bedroom condo that my mother-in-law was living in and now she is in the process of moving into a two bedroom condo in the next building over. So, this week was a lot of packing/unpacking and moving things around. Don't worry! I didn't lift anything heavy, but I did a lot of bending over, unpacking, and organizing this week!

12.21.2013

Bumpdate! {Week 14}

How far along: 14 weeks! (And 1 day... because this is late!)

Baby size: Baby is the size of a lemon, is 3.4 inches long, and weighs about 1.5 ounces!

Weight gain: I still don't have a scale at home, but I'm guessing I'm still about 4 pounds down from my starting weight. =( Eating is still a chore, so I doubt I've gained anything this week.

Maternity clothes: I GOT SOME MATERNITY PANTS THIS WEEK! My mother-in-law bought them for me as an early Christmas gift and I LOVE them! They are so much more comfortable than the hair-tie-around-the-button-awkward-open-zipper-that-digs-into-you-when-you-sit-down thing I had going on for the past few weeks! I have three pair for now - dark skinny jeans, black skinny's for work, and a pair of olive green skinny's, which might be my fave!

Stretch marks: Nope.

Sleep: Sleep has been pretty good lately - except for the fact that I stay up too late and then have to wake up too early - but that's just my fault! I'm pretty tired during the day and always think "tonight I'm going to bed early!" but it never happens. Oops.

Gender: Well... we officially have a girls name... like a first AND middle name... so does that mean we will have a boy? Haha. If so, we don't have a CLUE what we will be naming him!

Best moment this week: Probably the maternity pants! Seriously, they're awesome.

Looking forward to: Going a FULL week without throwing up. I was REALLY close this week, but then on the day that I tuned 14 weeks, BAM. I threw up and spent an awful day on the couch feeling miserable. WHY? WHY???

Movement: Not yet! Well, do gas bubbles count? Ha.

Food cravings: Bleh. No. Well, I guess I did go out to buy a pineapple and a watermelon this week and both tasted pretty good when I ate them, so maybe that was a craving?

Anything making you sick or queasy: Yes. Still, mostly everything.

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, CRAZY headaches, indigestion, and back pain. This baby is just not letting me off the hook!

Missing: (Still) My appetite! I just want food to be enjoyable again!

Belly Button in or out: In.

Wedding rings on or off: On.

Mood: I felt like I was pretty positive this week! (Excluding my horrible day yesterday. I had a full on pity party for myself.) I am still nauseous all day, every day, but it is nowhere near how bad it used to be. I can actually walk around in public and think about things other than "Okay... where is the nearest trash can/door/bathroom where I can throw up if I need to...", so that's been nice.

Well, that's it for my 14 week update! It feels so good to be this far along and I hope and pray it gets better as time goes. I absolutely CANNOT wait to find out if our little baby is a boy or a girl!!! We have scheduled the ultrasound for January 24th, so one month to go! See you all next week!

12.13.2013

Bumpdate! {Week 13}

How far along: 13 weeks!

Baby size: Baby is the size of a peach, is 3 inches long, and weighs about 1 ounce!

Weight gain: I had a doctors appointment today and unfortunately I have lost about 4 pounds from my starting weight. Hopefully I will begin gaining soon!

Maternity clothes: Still using the handy-dandy hair tie!

Stretch marks: Nope.

Sleep: Once I fall asleep, I sleep pretty good, but lately it has been taking me FOREVER to fall asleep, even though I'm SO tired.

Gender: After the doctor heard the heartbeat today, she is guessing girl! I think I'm still leaning towards it being a girl too!

Best moment this week: The best moment this week was hearing the baby's heartbeat today! It is so reassuring to hear it and know that everything is okay in there. Apparently the doctor could also hear that the baby was moving a lot, which is fun to think about! =)

Looking forward to: Feeling better! I am still throwing up a few times a week, but am glad that I'm starting to have some good(ish) days in-between. Come on second trimester, please be good to me!!!

Movement: Not yet!

Food cravings: No. Food still makes me sick to even think about, but this week I seemed to turn to Craisins and Salt & Vinegar chips.

Anything making you sick or queasy: Yes. Still, mostly everything.

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, headaches, and I'm sooo tired, especially in the late afternoon.

Missing: My appetite! I just want food to be enjoyable again!

Belly Button in or out: In.

Wedding rings on or off: On.

Mood: My mood this week was okay. I am thankful to be feeling at least a little bit better and I really hope things continue to head in that direction!

Nursery: Same answer as before. Still not sure, but I've been adding lots to my Pinterest board and can't wait to start collecting all of the things we'll need!

Work outs: I wouldn't say that I'm "working out" by any stretch of the imagination, but Josh and I took a pretty decent walk into Waikiki from our condo this past week and it was nice!

12.11.2013

A Day at Disney's Aulani Resort!

YOU GUYS! Guess what?!? We actually did something really fun this week! Haha. Oh man, it felt so good to get out of the house and actually enjoy this beautiful island that we call home - for the first time in over 2 months. To be honest, sometimes I would forget that we live here in Hawaii, because my days had turned into work, sleep, work, sleep (with plenty of throw up sessions in between) and nothing else.

I found out about a month ago that my grandma and her sister were going to be flying over to stay a week at Disney's Aulani Resort and Spa that is here on Oahu and I was SO excited - but also terrified. What if I was still so sick that I couldn't get out of bed? Ugh. I hated the thought of not being able to enjoy any time with them or being able to go check out the resort. Lucky for me, I had just hit the 12 week mark and was feeling (cautiously) okay enough to enjoy a day out!

We had SOOO much fun exploring the water park. I mean, all I can say is DISNEY - you never fail me. Everything they do is just over-the-top amazing and not a single detail was missed at this resort!

I somewhat paid for my "day of fun" the next morning (is there such a thing as a pregnancy hangover? Ha) but it was well worth it! I'm so glad that I'm starting to have some good days sprinkled in with the bad and pray that it will only continue to get better as the weeks go by!

12.06.2013

Bumpdate! {Week 12}

How far along: 12 weeks!

Baby size: Baby is the size of a lime, is 2 inches long, and weighs about .5 ounces!

Weight gain: Still 130 lbs. Hopefully I'll start gaining soon!

Maternity clothes: Still using the handy-dandy hair tie!

Stretch marks: Nope.

Sleep: The nights are now up and down for me. (Improvement!?) Some nights are okay, but some nights I am still pretty nauseous as I try to sleep.

Gender: I think I'm still leaning to the girl side. Josh is sure it's a girl!

Best moment this week: The best moment this week was definitely getting out of the house on one of my days off! I still threw up that morning, and still felt a little queasy while shopping, but I WENT TO TARGET and DRANK A (decaf) STARBUCKS! It was scary, but I did it!

Looking forward to: The dang second trimester! I am sooo close!

Movement: Not yet.

Food cravings: Hmm... not really. Everything still sounds pretty gross to me. EXCEPT, one day, all I could think about "maybe" eating was Chick-fil-A waffle fries dipped in Polynesian and Chick-fil-A sauce. Hawaii stinkin' NEEDS a Chick-fil-A! I seriously don't know how I am going to survive this pregnancy without one. =(

Anything making you sick or queasy: Yes. Still, mostly everything.

Symptoms: Something strange happened to me this past week. My "throw up schedule" used to be completely random and would most often happen in the evening or at night. After I hit 11 weeks, though, I have started throwing up every.single.morning. without fail. The upside to this is that I typically feel "better" afterwards and can actually eat something before I head to work. Don't get me wrong, I am still nauseous ALL day, but it isn't as intense as it used to be. I still have the other symptoms too... fatigue, headaches, and sore boobs.

Missing: Eating all of the yummy holiday treats that are around this time of year, and shopping! I want to go Christmas shopping so bad, but am still afraid to venture out of the house... especially for long periods of time. I did participate in cyber Monday, though! =)

Belly Button in or out: In.

Wedding rings on or off: On.

Mood: Getting better! I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel... I think... I hope! I still have my moments when I feel discouraged and just plain TIRED of feeling sick 24/7, but I can sense a slight improvement, so that's been encouraging.

Nursery: Same answer as before. Still not sure, but I've been adding lots to my Pinterest board and can't wait to start collecting all of the things we'll need!

Work outs: Still, no. Sorry for my bitterness about this last week. I need to start doing something active soon! Maybe walks in the evening? Does that count? We'll see.

11.29.2013

Bumpdate! {Week 11}

How far along: 11 weeks!

Baby size: Baby is the size of a fig, is 1.6 inches long, and weighs about .25 ounces!

Weight gain: I still haven't bought a scale, but I doubt I've gained anything yet. =(

Maternity clothes: Still using the handy-dandy hair tie!

Stretch marks: Nope.

Sleep: I am still nauseous as I sleep and am still feeling SUPER sick whenever I turn over or change positions, so I try to stay flat on my back most of the night.

Gender: This week I'm really thinking it's a girl for some reason. =)

Best moment this week: Thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday, I had an extra day off from work this week! I think that's the best I can come up with...

Looking forward to: The day when I will not feel like I'm on the verge of dying.

Movement: Nope.

Food cravings: Still no cravings, and still nothing that sounds "good", BUT plain bagels with butter and chocolate pudding are two things I have been able to keep down this week.

Anything making you sick or queasy: Mostly everything.

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, headaches, fatigue, sore boobs, getting out of breath easily, and crying. WOW, the headaches definitely stepped up their game this week! I thought things couldn't get worse, but try throwing up while you have a pounding headache on top of that! SO not fun. I'm not sure if I have been crying more because of hormones, or because I'm just so emotionally and physically drained. Probably both.

Missing: I'm kind of missing everything this week. Enjoying food, sleeping well, being able to stand at the mirror to do my hair and make-up, shopping, crafting, the beach, going out on my days off... the list could go on.

Belly Button in or out: In.

Wedding rings on or off: On.

Mood: Still not great this week. I definitely had a major breakdown and said things like "I can't do this anymore" and stuff like that. Each day just feels like a bad dream that I try to forget so I can move on to the next.

Nursery: I'm still not sure what we'll be doing about a nursery, but I'm excited for the day when I have the energy to care and start planning!

Work outs: No. People who tell me to exercise to feel better kind of make me want to punch them in the face. Maybe it could help, but while I have barely anything in my stomach and am trying not to throw up every waking moment, exercise it NOT on my mind. Sorry, folks.

Well, that's it for week eleven! I'm sorry that the updates have been on the negative side so far. I am PRAYING that by week twelve I will start feeling at least a little bit better. It's been a rough, ROUGH first trimester and I am more than ready to move on to the next! Thanks for checking in and I'll see you all next week!
